Police confirm body found in Paarl East is Chanelle Plaatjies

Published on

Western Cape police have confirmed that the body found in Paarl East is that of 16-year-old Chanelle Plaatjies.

The teen had last been seen on 14 May 2025, but she was only reported missing two weeks later, on 28 May.

Police said at the time that Plaatjies’ mother did not initially report her missing, as she usually stayed away for long periods before eventually returning home.

On Monday, 2 June, a body was discovered during the search for Plaatjies. The body was found in a shallow grave near a dam on the outskirts of the Allandale Correctional Centre.
