The City of Cape Town is lighting up iconic local landmarks, Table Mountain and the City Hall in purple in honour of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu this week.

Purple is a colour synonymous with Tutu.

The Arch, as he was lovingly known, died on 26 December 2021. His funeral is on Saturday 1 January at St George’s Cathedral. Members of the public will be able to pay their respects on Friday, while he lies in state at the Cathedral. Covid-19 protocols will be followed.
