Known for his memorable role as Jim Halpert in The Office and more recently as the tough but tender CIA agent in Jack Ryan, Krasinski’s blend of wit, warmth, and charisma has earned him a spot on the coveted cover this year.

Fans first fell in love with his charmingly awkward portrayal of a prank-loving salesman, the actor has since reinvented himself and is now beloved as an action star and filmmaker.

Reflecting on his win, Krasinski told PEOPLE Magazine that he’s just as surprised as anyone else. He said he was shocked at being chosen.

“Other than maybe I’m being punked. That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’ And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me.”

Talk show host, Stephen Colbert, made the big announcement on the Late Late Show on Tuesday. Krasinski visited the show to share a tutorial on how to sexy.

“In recent years, I have had the tremendous honour of announcing Paul Rudd and Chris Evans for their terms as PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive,” said Colbert. So it’s safe to say that no man can become the Sexiest until he passes through these lips.”

Colbert aptly renamed him “John Kra-Sexy”.

The 45-year-old actor said his wife, Emily Blunt, previously joked about covering their home with the cover of the magazine, if he were to win. The cover may also just be the perfect wrapping for Christmas gifts.

Mel Gibson was the first honouree of the coveted in 1985. Since then, notable winners include Brad Pitt (whose won twice), George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Matthew McConaughey. In recent years, winners included Idris Elba in 2018, Micheal B. Jordan and Patrick Dempsey.
