Payday and stingy behaviour

Payday has finally arrived! Many of last last got our salaries on the 16th of December 2022 so it’s been about 40 days since we’ve seen some kind of payment into our accounts. If you take into account how much we spend over the festive season, January really is a tough month.

South Africans are cutting back to save till the next payday

Consumer credit reporting agency TransUnion says that South Africans have significantly cut back on on ‘unnecessary’ spending like dining out, travel and entertainment in the past three months.

It’s no secret that most of us struggle a few days before the next paycheck. We find ourselves getting quite creative to scrape our last pennies together. But when does it go too far? Bobby recons he can double savings on rubbish bags:

Husbands and their dodgy ways with cash

The Smile Breakfast team asked our listeners to call in and tell us about the stingiest behaviour they’ve ever done or witnessed. We heard about a wealthy family of eight on holiday sharing a platter for two in a fancy restaurant. We also heard about the ways people hid their snacks from others and wedding presents being re-gifted. But we were most surprised by some of the ways two of our listeners’ husbands were with money:
