Former Paralympic champion, and convicted killed, Oscar Pistorius has been denied parole. The Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB) said that it would review Pistorius’ application a year from now. He will continue to serve his detention period.
The parole board ruled that Pistorius did not “complete the minimum detention period” as stated by the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA). The minimum period ends August 2024.
The Department of Correctional Services confirmed the decision from the CSPB:
The Department of Correctional Services has received the decision of the Correctional
Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB) on the parole consideration for inmate Oscar
Leonard Pistorius
The ‘Blade Runner’ shot and killed his then-girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013. However, he maintains that he thought she was an intruder.

Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide, but this was later changed by the SCA, which found him guilty of murder.
The Department of Correctional Services, in a statement, said the parole board will review Pistorius’ application in 2024:
The CSPB granted inmate Pistorius a further profile for August 2024. The reason provided
is that the inmate did not complete the minimum Detention Period as ruled by the Supreme
Court of Appeal(SCA) (as per the clarification provided on 28 March 2023).
The lawyer representing the Steenkamps – Tania Koen – says it took a “huge amount of guts and courage” for Reeva’s mother, June, to be present at the parole hearing. News24 reports that this has been very stressful for the family.

Koen accompanied June at the hearing at the Atteridgeville Correctional Centre. Reeva’s father, Barry, was unable to attend due to ill health.
