The National Director of Public Prosecutions, Shamila Batohi says the NPA will continue to collaborate with their counterparts in the UAE to do what is needed to get the Gupta brothers back to South Africa. Batohi and Justice Minister Ronald Lamola have announced, (that) the extradition request for Atul and Rajesh Gupta has been formally submitted to the UAE’s central authority.
Meanwhile: The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services says it’s untrue that South Africa did not respond to a request for mutual legal assistance from Namibia — to arrest one of the accused in the Phala Phala game farm robbery. David Immanuwela is a Namibian national who was alleged to have been part of the theft. Lamola says they’ve been working with the Namibian government since 2020, to bring all the perpetrators to book.
