62-year-old motorsport veteran Marcel Angel has died following an incident during a race at Killarney International Raceway in Cape Town on Saturday, 19 September.

Motorsport South Africa confirmed that Marcel Angel died after a serious incident during Race 1 of the Extreme SuperCars category at the National Extreme Festival.

Angel was a valued member of the motorsport community, with tributes being paid by organisers and Motorsport South Africa.

The remainder of Saturday’s programme was cancelled following the incident.

Motorsport South Africa extended its condolences to Angel’s family, friends, fellow competitors and everyone who knew him.

The Extreme Festival organisers have asked that the family’s privacy be respected at this time.
