Cape Town’s public swimming pools will be open daily from 23 September to 5 October, giving families a chance to cool off and enjoy the warmer spring weather during the Spring school holidays.
The City says most of its swimming pools will operate from 10 am to 5 pm throughout the holiday period.
However, five pools will remain closed for major maintenance and improvement work:
- Westridge Swimming Pool
- Bellville Central Swimming Pool
- Mnandi Swimming Pool
- Athlone Swimming Pool
- Vulindela Swimming Pool
The City says Westridge, Bellville Central, Mnandi and Athlone will reopen in phases once maintenance, quality assessments and safety checks have been completed.
Vulindela Swimming Pool will remain closed for the summer season while plans for its redesign and redevelopment are being worked on.
After the school holidays, public pools will move to reduced operating hours until 1 December. They will be open from 1 pm to 5 pm on Wednesdays to Fridays, and 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
The City is also preparing for the busy festive season, with the appointment of seasonal lifeguards underway.
Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham, has urged visitors to follow pool rules, listen to lifeguards and ensure children are supervised at all times.
