This year’s Met Gala celebrates the life and works of the late king of couture, Karl Lagerfeld.

Star-studded guests arrived in extravagant outfits, dripping in sparkles and pearls, adorned with starched collars, and black and white to honour the designer. The fundraiser for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted nearly 400 guests.

Lagerfeld’s cat was also honoured at the event, with at least two celebs dressing up as the white cat, Choupette.

The pampered cat was invited to attend the event, but sent her regards earlier in the day for not attending. The feline, via her Instagram, gave thanks for the tribute.

Sometimes it’s black and white

Black and white were the dominant colours of the evening. Many stars were also adorned in pearls.

While some celebs opted for classy – safe – outfits, others decided to make a daring splash at the Met Gala.

Lagerfeld is renowned for being at the helm of some of the biggest fashion houses on the globe – including Fendi and Chanel. Lagerfeld died in 2019 at the age of 85.

Rihanna made a grand entrance with her partner ASAP Rocky. The pair were the last to arrive to red carpet. The singer is pregnant with her second child. In the fashion of the evening, Rihanna donned a white wedding-like gown. She paired it with white fingerless gloves, just as Lagerfeld once did.

Karl Lagerfeld caused controversy during his life. Some remember the designer for his criticism towards larger women, despite a public struggle with his own weight. He ridiculed the #MeTooMovement and those who came forward with claims of sexual misconduct.
