The corruption case against former Speaker of the National Assembly, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, is set to go on trial next year.
The Gauteng Division of the High Court in Pretoria on Friday postponed the matter to 20 July 2026, marking it the latest development in a case that has drawn significant public attention.
Mapisa-Nqakula, who previously served as National Minister of Defence before becoming Speaker, faces 12 counts of corruption and money laundering.
She is accused of receiving and soliciting R4.5 million from a defence service provider during her tenure, with R2.1 million of that amount allegedly handed to her in cash.
The payments reportedly formed part of an illicit arrangement linked to procurement and other departmental dealings.
During Friday’s proceedings, Mapisa-Nqakula’s newly appointed attorney informed the court that she would no longer pursue representations to the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) and intends instead to proceed directly to trial.
Her R50 000 bail was extended under the same conditions and will remain in effect until her next appearance.
