LISTEN: 2022 News In Review – Mourning the loss of legends

Published on

As we enter a new year, we reflect on those we lost in 2022. The world and country bid farewell to some key figures.

Ruling from 1952 until her death on Sept the 8th, Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history. She died at age 96, just over a year after her husband, Prince Philip passed away.

Later that same month, 90s rapper Coolio died from a suspected heart attack in September. He’s been cited for leaving an indellible mark on the music industry.

Staying with musicians, legendary singer and actress and Olivia Newton-John also sang her final note this year. The Grammy winner died after battling breast cancer.

Towards the end of the year, we lost two more legends of the screen and stage, Cheers star Kirsty Alley also lost her battle with cancer, while Fleetwood Mac musician and songwriter Christine McVie died after a short illness.

To daytime television now, the world shed tears after the death of John Aniston, better known as Victor Kiriakis from hit soap Days of our Lives.

And moving back home – the country mourned the loss of two radio legends this year. Jeremy Mansfield and Kevin Savage. They both battled with cancer, and sadly this was the year their mics were forever silenced.

And last but not least — Rapper Riky Rick. The muso, One of South Africa’s most famous rappers, left his fans grieving after he took his own life in February.
