The candidate lists for the 2026 Local Government Elections have officially been published on the IEC’s website, with a record 136,790 candidates qualifying to contest council seats across the country.

But for voters, finding out who is actually running in your ward can be a bit of a mission, with huge PDF files to scroll through and search.

Luckily, some clever South Africans have made it much easier to find your ward councillor candidates – in just three clicks.

David Jeffery-Schwikkard, currently a Senior Researcher in the ANC Parliamentary Caucus, has developed an app called Find My Candidates.

All you need to do is select your province, municipality and ward number, and the app will show you who will appear on the ballot on 4 November 2026.
