The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate said passengers can now safely embark and disembark at the entrance to the Killarney station along Potsdam Road after the area was cleared.

The City’s chief for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, said MyCiTi staff remain on site to assist commuters while operations are closely monitored.

“I’m very relieved because we want to minimise any disruptions as far as possible,” said Quintas.

He added that, if necessary, a shuttle service would be introduced to take commuters to the Potsdam station. But until that is needed, commuters can continue using the service as normal.

“We understand how vital this route is for many commuters, and we are doing everything in our power to keep Cape Town moving. We thank commuters for their patience and understanding,” Quintas said.

Quintas advised that an investigation into the cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage is still ongoing, with planning also underway for repairs.
