It’s official, the United Arab Emirates’ first mission to Mars has successfully reached the Red Planet and entered orbit with their Hope Probe after a 7-month, 307 million-mile journey. There was a 50% chance of failure, as entering Mars’ orbit required the probe to burn roughly half, of its onboard fuel to slow down enough not to overshoot, the most dangerous part of the journey. The Emirates Mars Mission, which costs approximately $200 million, launched the Hope Probe from a Japanese launch center, and aims to provide a complete picture of the Martian atmosphere for the first time.
