There’s a game of rugby that might have gone under your radar this weekend between the Italian Rugby team and France in the under-20 Six Nations on Friday night. It preceeded the senior teams epic bout on Sunday, with the Italians coming close to shocking the French in both matches.
Rugby with Passion and Flair
The under-20 bout was a match that had as much Italian Passion, as it did French flair – and power. It also had a feel of a Tennis epic. The two teams of youthful nationals took turns in receiving and giving blows to the opposition scoreboard.
It culminated in an epic final 10 minutes where the Italian youngsters kept driving toward the French line. A try would get them within one point, and a successful conversion would give them a famous win.
Remember, the Italian Rugby teams have been scraping the bottom of World Rugbys’ barrel – and now they are here to rock the Rugby boat.

While it’s tough to hold just one player out above the rest, that Player of the Match award found its way into the rightful hands of the Italian flanker, David Odiase. The man stepped up into the post-match presentation and the words soon started flowing straight from the heart.
“We are sending a big message to World Rugby that we are coming for all you people,” said Odiase in the post-match presentation.
“We have been eating s**t alone for the past years, and now the results are starting to come. It’s the beginning of a long process.”

The Senior teams followed nearly the same script
The senior team proved that the tide is slowly starting to turn. Italy’s Six Nations opener started with an extremely tough test, where they played host to France over the weekend.
The Italians kept fighting and managed to stay in the match, nearly pulling off a massive upset.

France are the bookies’ favourite to win the 2023 Rugby World Cup on home soil and they nearly came up short against the Italians.
That a dire warning to the French, who feature in Pool A alongside Italy and New Zealand. One wrong move or funny bounce of the rugby ball could see them miss out on the Knockout stages.
