Home Affairs offices will operate every Saturday for the next 4 weeks to accommodate matrics, as they prepare for their final exams.

The Department of Home Affairs will prioritize matriculants, by issuing temporary IDs, ID collections, and applications. Home Affairs offices will be open on Saturdays from 21 September to 12 October 2024, from 08h00 to 13h00.

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has welcomed the announcement. The department’s spokesperson Terence Khala said the agreement by the two departments has been in place since 2010, which was renewed in 2023.

“Learners will receive preferential treatment when applying for and collecting their IDs. This is an excellent example of how government departments can work together to prioritise the needs of learners,” said Khala.

The Matric 2024 National Senior Certificate Final Exam period commences on October 21 and concludes on November 28.
