The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has warned criminals involved in cash-in-transit robberies that their days are numbered.

This comes after Gauteng police intercepted a suspected cash-in-transit robbery gang before they could execute their criminal plans on Wednesday evening.

According to police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, officers have been following a gang believed to be linked to a number of serious and violent crimes committed across the province.

Acting on intelligence, law enforcement officers descended on a house in Daveyton on the East Rand and recovered seven rifles, one pistol, reflector jackets and a hijacked BMW X5.

Mathe says a manhunt is currently underway to trace and arrest the known suspects who managed to evade arrest.

Lieutenant General Dimpane has commended the coordinated efforts of all law enforcement agencies involved in the operation.

“We have made significant inroads in dismantling CIT syndicates, and we will continue to deal decisively with those who terrorise our communities and endanger the lives of innocent citizens,” said Lieutenant General Dimpane

Dimpane further warned criminals involved in cash-in-transit robberies that their days are numbered.

“Our intelligence capabilities continue to improve, and we are closing in on those responsible. We will hunt them down, arrest them and ensure they face the full might of the law.”

As Gauteng Police continue investigations, more arrests are reportedly expected as the manhunt intensifies.
