Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is transforming into a place of wonder this winter holiday, with all children under 18 enjoying free entry to the garden from 28 June to 21 July 2025.

The Winter Wonders programme promises a blend of creativity and adventure for young minds. From drumming and sand art to nature walks and hands-on workshops, the garden will be brimming with engaging activities tailored to delight young nature lovers.

Throughout the holidays, children can enjoy guided Adventure Walks through the garden, led by Botanical Society volunteers. After each walk, children will receive a complimentary hot chocolate at Moyo, the on-site restaurant.

At HAPPY BY NATURE, Kirstenbosch’s indigenous nursery, children can pot their own plants, paint rocks, create natural perfumes, and dive into a scavenger hunt among local flora. Special workshops for children aged 7–14 take place on selected dates, offering immersive sessions themed around Proteas, edible plants, birdlife, and more.

Inside Moyo Restaurant, children will get to enjoy marimba, sand art, and drumming sessions daily. Meanwhile, the Kirstenbosch Bookshop hosts story times with local authors and illustrators on select mornings, with discounts on children’s books and plush toys.

There’s also something for the parents waiting for the kids.

They can relax at Moyo, Fynkos, or Vida e Caffè while the little ones are entertained or browse the Kirstenbosch Gift Shop for unique keepsakes and plants with expert advice.

The Winter Wonders programme runs daily, with each visit offering something new to discover. Parents can simply collect tickets at the gate or book online.
