Two 25-year-old men were arrested for drunk driving after one suspect crashed his Porsche Taycan into a City of Cape Town traffic vehicle and then called his equally intoxicated friend to the scene.
According to the City’s Safety and Security Directorate, the incident occurred at 06:42 on Saturday, when a City Traffic Officer patrolling along FW de Klerk Boulevard noticed a Porsche Taycan speeding up behind him.
The officer reportedly attempted to switch lanes to let the vehicle pass, but the driver clipped the officer’s vehicle and sped off.
A high-speed chase ensued, ending near Century City when the officer managed to bring the suspect to a halt. A breathalyser test revealed that the 25-year-old driver was nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit.
The driver was arrested for driving under the influence, reckless and negligent driving, fleeing an accident scene, failing to comply with a lawful instruction and damage to council property. The luxury Porsche was also impounded under the City’s Traffic by-law.
In a surprising twist, the suspect reportedly called a friend for assistance following the accident, who arrived moments later and was also found to be driving under the influence.

Both were subsequently detained.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, said the case mirrored a similar incident earlier this year involving another Porsche along the same stretch of road.
“The audacity in this case was at an all-time high, and just more proof that some supercar drivers are among our most problematic categories of road users,” said Smith
The pair were among 291 arrests made by the City’s enforcement services in the past week.
Smith has commended the officers involved for their perseverance in catching the suspect, but also for being alert to his equally inebriated friend.
“May the criminal justice system dish up the appropriate punishment.”
