A Hanover Park family is reeling after their beloved dog was stabbed to death by an alleged gangster. Major, a one-year-old female German Sheperd crossbreed was outside her owner’s premises on Tuesday when an irate alleged gangster chased after a suspected rival. When he was unable to reach the person he sought, he stabbed Major to death out of anger.

The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa’s spokesperson Allan Perrins said to call the act inhumane is an understatement. The sadistic act was caught on CCTV footage. A source claimed the helpless animal was killed by a member of the Ghetto Kids gang who apparently took exception to a rival gang member from the Park Kids gang allowing the dog to urinate on a field that they consider their turf.

“Inspector Sivuyile Kilwa risked life and limb to recover the body of a dog, senselessly stabbed to death by a notorious Hanover Park gangster. He has been able to track down the perpetrator and secure CCTV footage of the crime. The police are now in possession of everything they need to arrest the suspect,” said Perrins.

Western Cape Provincial SAPS spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that Philippi Police detectives have registered a case of cruelty to animals.

“At around 17:05 he saw a male rushing onto his premises, with the excuse that he was chased by a group of males. When the complainant went to check outside, he saw a man stabbing his dog and left it behind for death. The man fled the scene and is yet to be arrested. We appeal to anyone with information to please call Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” said Swartbooi.

The innocent and defenseless dog had no fighting chance.

According to residents, the area has been tense and rife with gang activity.

“Combating animal cruelty is crucial to fostering safer communities. We are enraged by this senseless killing and adamant that the suspect is not granted bail as he displays the traits of a violent psychopath. He will kill again!” said AWS SA CEO Dr John McMullen who performed the autopsy on the dog.
