MEC Isaac Sileku welcomes the arrests of individuals allegedly responsible for attacks on cyclists and pedestrians

The Western Cape Mobility MEC, Isaac Sileku has welcomed the arrests of individuals allegedly responsible for recent attacks on cyclists and pedestrians in Woodstock.

“I commend the efforts by the SAPS and all enforcement agencies who heeded our call to bring these offenders to justice,” Sileku added.

He has praised the swift and coordinated response by the South African Police Service and other enforcement agencies in apprehending the alleged perpetrators.

Sileku says these alleged criminals posed a serious threat to the safety of cyclists, pedestrians and commuters. He says their arrests are a crucial step in ensuring that non-motorised routes remain safe for everyone to use.

 

Sileku added, “No one should have to fear for their safety while cycling, walking and commuting in our province.”

 

At the same time, he said the Provincial Government remains committed to promoting safer mobility.

He says they will continue to work closely with law enforcement and communities to protect all road users, especially pedestrians and cyclists.

 

The MEC elaborated, “The safety of cyclists, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users remains my top priority.”

Sileku, on behalf of the Western Cape Government, has also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. They are also asked to collaborate with the authorities to prevent further incidents.
