Minister of Higher Education and Science, Blade Nzimande says the National Student Financial Aid Scheme is facing severe financial-challenges and can therefore not yet confirm funding for new University students.

The Minister spoke during a news briefing this week and said the financial short-falls have been caused largely by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He says students last year required additional funding to be able to continue their studies remotely.

Nzimande says the current economic climate, created by the pandemic, has lead to many more students requiring funding.
