Delft police have confirmed that 10 suspects have been arrested after community members looted a shop in the area.
According to police, the group gained access through the roof of the shop in Main Road in Voorbrug, Delft, on Tuesday, 30 June 2026. Video footage of the incident have since been widely shared on social media.
Western Cape Police Sergeant Wesley Twigg says one female and nine males between the ages of 18 and 45 were arrested.
Cases of public violence and malicious damage to property have been registered at Delft Police Station for further investigation.
According to Twigg, the suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court once they have been charged.
The Ministry of Police confirmed that police have, since the early hours of Tuesday morning, also arrested several individuals in connection with incidents of looting and attempted looting reported in parts of the country.
This is as law enforcement continues to monitor the planned anti-immigrant marches taking place nationwide.
Police reportedly remain on high alert, with heightened deployments in place to ensure public safety, protect businesses and critical infrastructure, and maintain law and order.
“We urge citizens to exercise their constitutional rights responsibly and to ensure that demonstrations remain peaceful and lawful. Those who choose to exploit the marches to commit criminal acts will face the full might of the law. Police will continue to identify, arrest, and prosecute all those responsible for criminal conduct.” said Acting Minister of Police, Firoz Cachalia
