Counterfeit goods worth millions seized in Bellville
Sergeant Wesley Twigg says members of the South African Police Service and Brand Protectors jointly took part in a search and seizure operation in the Bellville CBD. The operation took place on Tuesday, 09 June 2026. Inspections were also conducted at shops believed to sell counterfeit goods.
Combating the counterfeit and illicit goods trade
Twigg says these operations are aimed at combating the counterfeit and illicit goods trade in the Western Cape. He says that, at the same time, it is aimed at protecting consumers and legitimate businesses that are affected by the trade in these goods.

Counterfeit clothing and illicit goods
A wide range of counterfeit clothing and illicit goods were confiscated during the operation. This includes branded clothing, running shoes and sneakers. Twigg says these items have an estimated value of R98 000 000.00.

Twigg added that the seizure of the counterfeit goods is regarded as a significant blow to the illegal trade in these goods. He says that those responsible for the illicit trade will be pursued. Some are being questioned at this stage.
