With just a month to go before the HSBC SVNS Cape Town kicks off at DHL Stadium, excitement is building across the Mother City, and both the City of Cape Town and the Blitzboks are ready for action.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has urged Capetonians to make it a weekend to remember, calling the two-day rugby spectacle “one of the funnest weekends of the year.”
“Few events bring our city to life quite like the Sevens,” said Hill-Lewis.
“It’s fast-paced, world-class rugby – an incredible weekend of colour, energy and fun for the whole family. I can’t wait to join thousands of fans at DHL Stadium.”
The HSBC SVNS Cape Town will take place on 6 and 7 December 2025, featuring the 16 best international sevens teams, including powerhouses Fiji, New Zealand, Argentina, and Australia.
The Blitzboks will run out before their home crowd as both the defending Cape Town champions and the reigning World Sevens Series champions, after sealing their title in Los Angeles earlier this year.
Tickets are available exclusively through Ticketmaster.co.za, starting from R250 per person per day, with family specials and various seating categories available. The Mayor has also reminded supporters to avoid ticket resellers, warning that only Ticketmaster has legitimate access to official tickets.
While the city is preparing for one of its biggest sporting weekends of the year, the Blitzboks are fine-tuning their game plan. Head coach Philip Snyman says his side is “ready for tournament mode” after completing a crucial conditioning block and a team-building session in Caledon.
“We needed to get some game time in the legs and get our returning fifteens players back in rhythm with our plays,” Snyman explained. “We’re happy with how the group has come together, the tournament in Stellenbosch and our matches against Germany were very productive.”
The Blitzboks’ strong team culture, a hallmark of their success over the years, remains at the centre of their preparation. Snyman said the Caledon camp helped the squad reconnect with their shared values and leadership structure.
“It’s a player-driven system, and we’re fortunate to have a strong leadership group. I’m also very happy to have Renfred Dazel alongside me this season. His technical knowledge and drive for excellence are invaluable.”
Looking ahead, Snyman’s next task is selecting his combinations for the Emirates Dubai Sevens (29–30 November), where the Blitzboks will face tough pool competition from Olympic medallists France and Fiji, and Argentina, who topped last season’s standings.
“Our goal this season is to expand our selection base with an eye on the 2029 Olympics,” Snyman said. “We’ve built depth in the forwards, and I’m happy to have multiple strong options heading into the new season.”
As the final countdown begins, Cape Town is gearing up for a vibrant weekend of rugby, music, and family fun, and the Blitzboks are ready to defend their turf in front of their home fans.
“Come dressed in your best Sevens outfit, come and support the Blitzboks, and be part of the best sporting atmosphere anywhere in the world,” Hill-Lewis said. “I’ll definitely be there with my family. See you at the Sevens!”
