COSATU in the Western Cape will be marching through the streets of Cape Town on Thursday 4 August, to demand action from authorities on violent crime and petrol price hikes.

Workers will first march to the Civic Centre, then the Provincial Legislature and lastly Parliament, to hand over a memorandum to local, provincial and national government officials.

The City of Cape Town granted an application from COSATU with permission for a gathering not 3000 thousand people

SAPS is the lead agency on matters relating to public order policing, but the City’s enforcement services will deploy in support of SAPS, and manage road closures and traffic impacts as the procession moves through the CBD.

If you are traveling into town on Thursday, here are the areas to avoid, if possible:

• The participants will assemble at Hanover Street from 08h00.
• The procession will commence at 09H30 from Hanover Street proceed down and left into Tenant Street, into Christiaan Barnard Street;
• Marchers will then turn left into Hertzog Boulevard to gather at the Red Knot outside the Civic Centre to hand over a memorandum at 10h30.
• The march will then proceed back into Hertzog Boulevard, turn right into Christiaan Barnard Street right into Sir Lowry and into Darling Street;
• The participants will then proceed left into Adderley Street into Wale Street to gather outside the Provincial Legislature to hand over a memorandum at 12h30.
• The procession will proceed back into Adderley Street right into Bureau/Spin Street, left into Plein Street to gather outside National Parliament to hand over a memorandum at about 14h30.
• Marchers will then proceed to Roeland Street left into Buitenkant Street right into Darling Street back to Hanover parking area.
• The participants will disperse no later than 16h00.
