The new Centre for Cardio-metabolic Research in Africa, at the University of Stellenbosch, will help boost Africa-specific heart disease research.

This, according to the University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, which says that research done at the center will help doctors gain a better understanding of the lifestyle and medical factors, that lead to heart- and other metabolic diseases in sub-Saharan African countries.

The Deputy Director for the center, Prof. Hans Strijdom, says much more research is needed, to improve current treatment-strategies.
