CAPE TOWN – Tributes are still pouring in for the vet fatally stabbed by criminals at his home in Athlone. The suspects allegedly tried to steal the wheels from his wife’s car, during the early hours of Thursday morning.
Dr Jacobs was set to start a new job at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA this week.
Family and friends of Jacobs took to social media to share their heartbreak at his death, reports IOL:
I have some very sad news. Zulykha and Ridwaan Jacobs’ eldest son Natheem was stabbed and killed by intruders at their house this morning around 1am in Lady May Street. He heard a noise outside by the cars and went to investigate. He found a guy breaking into his wife’s car trying to steal the wheels. He fought them, they had a scuffle and the guy stabbed him in the chest. He died on his way to hospital

Police report that Jacobs was stabbed at his home in Lady May Street, Garlendale, Athlone. The incidentc occured just after midnight. The police’s Captain F.C van Wyk says a murder docket is open for investigation:
Circumstances surrounding the death of a 24 year old man, who was stabbed at a premises in Lady May Street, Garlandale, Athlone on 2023-03-02 at about 00:12 are under investigation
Captain van Wyk says Jacobs succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital. He also requests that anyone with information about the incident is to contact the Crime Stop hotline (08600 10111).

Belinda Abraham, SPCA spokesperson, says the loss is devastating:
The staff of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA are devastated by the loss of Dr Natheem Jacobs who was fatally stabbed outside of his Rondebosch East home during the early hours of this morning. As a committed welfare veterinarian whose heart for animals was beyond comprehension his loss reverberates throughout the entire organisation.
The 24-year-old was working under the supervision of SPCA Board member, Dr Ayoub Banderker:
“I really enjoyed supervising and working with Dr Jacobs and I was so proud of him as one of the new generation of Muslim vets.”

Dr Jacobs just signed a contract for permanent employment with the SPCA, this week, reports the organisation. Cape of Good Hope SPCA CEO, Moyo Ndukwana says an animal hero has fallen:
…we are all heartbroken, but we are honouring Dr Jacobs in the best way we know how – by continuing to help the animals he loved so much. He was a shining example of what it means to truly care for animals and his loss is not only ours, it is a loss for animal welfare at large. He will be deeply and sorely missed by all of us
Belinda Abraham says Dr Natheem Jacobs leaves behind his wife, Imaan and his parents, Zulayka and Ridwaan Jacobs:
(we) hope that they find comfort in knowing that we will remain forever inspired by his passion for his work and compassion for animals. He will be remembered through every animal that comes through our doors and his dedication to welfare will keep reminding us why we can never give up fighting against animal cruelty.
