The Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s 500 animals have sufficient water supply…for now.
That’s according to the organisation’s spokesperson Belinda Abraham who said this is thanks to rainfall on Friday and preventative measures that were implemented when management held a meeting on Friday.
This comes as areas in Cape Town’s southern suburbs and the cape flats are experiencing a 72-hour water outage. From midnight on Sunday, taps ran dry and will only flow again on Wednesday, at midnight. The City of Cape Town communicated that this is for essential maintenance to be carried out. Residents were requested to ensure they have enough water, via the use of water tankers that are located in several areas.
Residents impacted by the 72 hour water shutdown are advised of the following tanker locations until 21:00:
• Ottery Flats: Civic Centre
• Buck Road PTI: Corner of 5th Avenue and Buck Road
• Lakeview at the train station

The SPCA’s Belinda Abraham said there is currently water in its water storage tanks, at the Grassy Park facility:
“We do obviously have an extremely water resource-heavy operation. Water is life at the SPCA. This is not only for drinking purposes, but also for maintaining a disease-free environment,” said Abraham.
ANIMALS IN NEIGHBOURING COMMUNITIES
Abraham said the animal welfare organisation is concerned about animals in the surrounding areas:
“Our immediate concerns are obviously for animals left without water in the communities. We are appealing for potable bottled water for our inspectors to take on the road with them. This will really be welcomed and they can be dropped off, at our facilities in Grassy Park,” concluded Abraham.
Those who are unable to deliver the water can give the facility a call at 021 700 4141. An arrangement will then be made for collection.
