The Portfolio Committee on Social Development has expressed serious concern over the Department of Social Development’s qualified audit opinion for the 2025/26 financial year, after it was revealed that millions in grant funding have been paid to people who were already deceased, government employees and those whose eligibility could not be fully confirmed. The committee was briefed by the Office of the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) on the audit outcomes on Tuesday.
