There have been renewed reports of sardines washing up along Cape Town beaches this weekend, as the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment urges people not to consume the sardines or feed them to pets. Multiple accounts on social media posted pictures of sardines, commonly known as pilchards, washed up on Milnerton, Sunset Beach and Blouberg beaches. The Department confirmed that it is aware of sardines washing up on these local beaches.
Cape Town Metro Police’s K9 Unit has seized drugs worth more than R300,000 during an intelligence-driven operation in Bellville. According to Metro Police spokesperson Superintendent Ruth Solomons, officers followed up on a tip from Crime Intelligence at around 12:30 on Saturday, 15 August, about drugs allegedly being stored at a storage facility in the area. Officers spotted a gold-coloured Toyota believed to be driven by a suspect linked to the matter.
Western Cape police have launched a murder probe after one of their own was shot and killed in Nyanga on Saturday night, 15 August.
