    The Eastern Cape province has observed a provincial day of mourning in Mthatha for the 92 people who died after floods battered the region last week.       Many were left displaced as a result of the inclement weather. According to provincial authorities, over 4 300 people were left homeless as a result of the heavy rains which led to localised flooding and damage to infrastructure.

    The Western Cape Government has rolled out the second phase of its jobseeker travel voucher programme.     The initiative was introduced last year, to help unemployed residents access job opportunities by allowing them to travel for free on Golden Arrow buses across the Cape metro.     Since the initial launch in February 2024, over 3 700 unemployed residents have made use of the service.     Image by Lizell Persens

  More than 1,000 e-hailing operating licences are available in the Western Cape.   The City Urban Mobility department says following a review, in partnership with the Provincial Government, they have identified a need for 1,106 additional operating licences to meet commuter demand.   Of these, 840 are new licences, which MMC Rob Quintas says will create opportunities for first-time applicants.   Operators with expired licences must apply between 18 and 30 June 2025, while
