    The Paarl Magistrates’ Court has sentenced former Springbok rugby player, Schalk Willem Petrus Burger Senior, and his company, Welbedacht Wines (Pty) Ltd, after being convicted for failing to submit tax returns.    69-year-old Burger was convicted on 14 counts, including “failure to submit a VAT201 return for the period 02/2023, an EMP201 return for the period 03/2023 and IT12 Income Tax returns for the period of 2011 to 2022”, said the National Prosecuting

  The Parow Regional Court has handed down an effective life sentence to Bad Boys gang member Duran Lee Fourie for the murders of three men in Uitsig in 2023.   The court found Fourie guilty of the premeditated murders of Colin Simons, Hadley Williams and Jayden Jantjies, as well as illegal possession of a firearm.   On 26 September 2023, Fourie and two unidentified armed men ambushed the victims outside Mimosa Court, opening fire

    Over 50 people have died in fatal road crashes in the first two weeks of this month alone.   The Western Cape government says despite shedding over 100,000 jobs between the first and second quarters of 2025, the province recorded a net gain of 69,000 jobs over the past year.   The MEC of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism, Ivan Meyer, was commenting on the latest labour force survey released by Stats SA yesterday.   With the lowest unemployment rate in South Africa at 21.1%, the province outperformed the national rate of 33.2%.
