    An official investigation is underway by the South African Human Rights Commission into offensive comments made by Sport and Culture Minister, Gayton McKenzie.   The SAHRC said that McKenzie’s social media posts on X, between 2011 and 2017, constitute prima facie violations of the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act.     He used the k-word, but McKenzie maintains that it was not used in a racist context.   ALSO

    The City of Cape Town has reported a decline in fire-related fatalities over the past year, though officials continue to stress the need for vigilance.    According to the latest statistics, the overall number of residential fires in 2024/25 dropped by 10%, while fatalities decreased by 25%.
