There was some commotion near the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday afternoon after a naked man, believed to be a vagrant, fired off several gunshots. Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police, Ian Cameron, have now joined calls for more local policing control in the Cape Metropole. This comes after the DA MP revealed that nearly 40 people were murdered in Mfuleni last month, which is a 62% increase compared to the same period last year. Teaching and learning continued as normal at Vista High School in Bo-Kaap on Wednesday, following recent disruptive demonstrations there. Learners protested at the school and in the surrounding area on Tuesday morning, calling for the removal of the school’s principal and to voice their frustration with challenges at the school, such as a high teacher turnover rate. The Western Cape Government has congratulated local pool star Tasneem Solomons on winning her second consecutive Women’s World Masters title at the IEPF World Eightball Pool Championships, in Ennis, Ireland, on Monday, 1 September. Solomons, who hails from Bonteheuwel, also won the title in 2024. Her back-to-back victories cement her status as one of South Africa’s top female cue sports athletes.
