The Department of Tourism says job creation within the Industry will be top priority this Tourism Month.

Celebrated in September, Tourism Month this year will focus on getting more South Africans to experience local attractions and desitinations, to boost domestic spending. This, according to the Department, will reduce the country’s unemployment rate, whilst also stimulating economic growth.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Fish Mahlalela, says the Department will focus on developing the sector to its maximum potential.

The Department will also intensify its overseas marketing campaign to increase the number of international arrivals to 21-million by 2030.

South Africa has the largest tourism economy in Africa, currently providing 1.5-million jobs locally.
