At the start of January, we ran the Fabulous First Day competition , inviting parents and family members to enter their first time school goers (Grade R – Grade 1) for a chance of a lifetime to arrive at their first day of big school in absolute style. The lucky learner to be drawn was bright-eyed, car-loving grade one first timer , Ayden Felix from Bothasig. He was accompanied by his proud parents , mom Marchalene and dad Ashley who were later joined at their home by gushing grandparents, uncles and aunt. The Smile team arrived to a sleeping Ayden whose mom gently woke him up to start the first day of the rest of his school career. Unaware of the chariot awaiting him, Ayden got dressed in his freshly pressed school uniform and shiny new school shoes and enjoyed a nutritious breakfast before allowing some photo ops with his family and a mandatory trampoline jump with baby sister, 2-year-old Lunar. Smile’s Bobby Brown managed to get a few words out of the awe-struck young man, on his first day of school, he is most excited about playing hide and seek with his friend.
The prize comprised of a privately chauffeured limousine ride from his home to Goodwood Park Primary School where he started his school career in style and got the opportunity with the help of Smile 90.4fm and Mason Complete Office Solutions to kick start his new classmates’ year by being gifted with some stationary items other goodies.
Upon arriving at the school, the Smile team were greeted with wide eyes and curious expressions as learner’s attempt to figure out who was in the limousine. Whispers of ‘Maybe it’s a movie star’ could be heard across the school courtyard as Ayden and his family emerge from the limo.
Ayden was whisked into his classroom where he was welcomed by his grade 1 teacher Mrs Burger (who knew each child by name) and met his new mates who he will be experiencing the school year with in 2020. We wish Ayden and his fellow first timers a wonderful school year filled with loads of learning, living and fun!
