And… There are 100 days to go until the start of the postponed Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. The Olympic Games were originally meant to take place in Tokyo in 2020 but the pandemic saw them postponed until 23 July this year. According to a poll 70-percent of Japan’s population want the games cancelled or postponed again. At this stage the event is still scheduled to go ahead – although without any spectators from abroad.

The Disaster Management Act has been extended for another month, and will now expire on May 15. The extension of the act — the umbrella legislation under which the country’s Covid-19 related laws are promulgated — was signed into effect and gazetted by co-operative governance and traditional affairs, minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on Tuesday, and published on Wednesday. Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says the extension, which was to expire today, has been gazetted. The national state of disaster was declared on 15 March 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was originally set for three months, but regulations allow Dlamini-Zuma to extend it by notice in the Government Gazette monthly. She encouraged people to continue following non-pharmaceutical interventions, like wearing masks and social distancing.
