A summons is set to be issued for Norma Mngoma, the estranged wife of former finance minister Malusi Gigaba. The testimony by Mngoma ended up not happening as scheduled yesterday when she informed the commission, chaired by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, she would no longer be testifying. As it was widely publicised, she was expected to reveal allegations linking the former minister to the Gupta family. She was scheduled to give evidence before the commission at 4 o'lock after which a summons was issued, compelling her to testify.

Another recording of a closed high-level ANC meeting has surfaced and in it, deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte can be heard telling fellow officials that they should find a “solution” for former president Jacob Zuma after he defied a Constitutional Court order. The order related to his refusal to appear before the state capture inquiry. From the references which Duarte made, it appeared that the recording was taken at the ANC’s top six meeting with Zuma on 28 March.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the country may have temporarily suspended the further rollout of the Johnson & Johnson covid-19 vaccine, but he has stressed that it’s just a precautionary measure. Mkhize says after consultations with advisory teams, and ethics committees, as well as Sahpra and the Ministerial Advisory Committee, it was decided that more information is needed before the country proceeds with the mass roll out of the vaccine. The minister however seems confident that it will only be a few days’ delay before the resumption of the vaccine drive.
