A hero’s welcome for Banyana Banyana

Published on

The president meets with Banyana Banyana at midday to celebrate their huge weekend victory
We stay with that story: Banyana Banyana got a hero’s welcome yesterday when they brought the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy home. The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has given the team an additional 5-point-8-MILLION-RAND bonus for winning the tournament – on top of their SAFA bonus of R400 000 each. Team Coach Desiree Ellis says Banyana Banyana never gave up at AFCON. The President of SAFA, Danny Jordaan says the team displayed tenacity on the field, never losing sight of their goals.

Meanwhile: The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, who was also at the airport, says the government is working to ensure that Banyana Banyana players and women in other sporting codes, receive equal pay, to their male counterparts.
