A cute workout look makes the gym more fun

Published on

Why should you even workout?

I’ve been active my entire life, probably because I was a sport fanatic in school. Now, I am a CrossFitter. And before you judge, understand that I find it extremely effective and a way of working out that I actually enjoy. That is the key word – enjoy!

I understand that we are not all active-inclined but -one thing is for sure- working out has positive effects on your physical and mental health. You can find proof of this all over the Internet – and old books in the library! I almost guarantee your healthcare provider will agree.

I am not saying that we all need to lift heavy weights every day, or run for kilometres on end. All I am trying to say is that you need to find a way to elevate your heart rate at least 3 times a week, even if it is only walking with the intent to burn some calories.

Now let’s get to what you’re going to wear

For me, the baggier the better, to be honest. I do not like the idea of people seeing too much skin during a workout. That being said, when I started CrossFit, I realised that many CrossFitters wear as little as possible for practical reasons. When you’re chasing high rep numbers you certainly don’t want anything restricting your movements. It’s straight up annoying.

Outfit inspiration

I’ll let you in on a little secret: new workout clothes can motivate you to start or get back into training. A look-fit-feel-fit, kinda thing.

Pick something practical: I sweat like a tiny pig in the gym, so getting something with an open back makes sense. The ventilation is more than welcome.

Personalise your gear: printing your name on the back of your shirt, your last name on your sock or your nickname on you gym towel creates a sense of pride, even discipline, to show up and live up to your name.

Wear your Crocs to gym: (I’m digging this on the sly) right before training, exchange it for your tekkies. And before you leave the gym, swap back into your Crocs just so everyone can see you can afford buying Crocs.

Matching sets: are also the new in-thing. So if you really want to stand out and draw attention, buy a pink one.

Workout jewellery: has also made their way back into many outfits. I honestly cannot think of anything more annoying than jumping or running with a chain around my neck, but again, that’s just me. Opt for gold or silver (plastic is not cool at the moment). I would not recommend fake metals, because mixing those with sweat will not make them last long.

Training-resistant hair accessories: or just plait your hair if it’s long. It needs to be steady and make sense for a workout. Only those (unrealistic) fit-fluencers know how to train with hair laying down their back…

Remember you need to be comfortable. I don’t want you pulling a back muscle because you were scared of breaking your necklace while lifting weights. Ultimately, you are working to break a sweat, not to sweat every detail of your look.
