President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the entire country will move to LEVEL 2 of the lockdown from midnight Monday 17 August.

All restrictions on inter-provincial travel will be lifted. This will be a huge boost for domestic tourism, as hospitality establishments in Cape Town and the Western Cape will now be allowed to take in guests from other provinces.

Restaurants, bars and taverns will be allowed to sell alcohol for on-site consumption until 10pm.

The ban on the sale of tobacco will be lifted.

Liquor outlets will be allowed to sell alcohol for off-site consumption from Mon-Thurs, 9am-5pm only.

Family and social visits will be allowed, although Ramaphosa has urged extreme caution, especially for vulnerable family members.

The National State of Disaster has however been extended until 15 September 2020. Several restrictions on large gatherings and sporting events remain in place.

The current curfew will also remain in place, between 10pm – 4am.
