Farmers in drought stricken areas across the province have received a generous boost thanks to two friends.  Ruan Van Der Merwe from Blouberg and Marius Viljoen from Bonnievale, launched the Friends of Drought Relief initiative, aimed at assisting farmers across the province who are struggling due to the severe drought.

The two friends decided to provide a helping hand for farmers and their families, by providing them with animal fodder, diesel and trucks to distribute goods. The news of their initiative which started early this month, spread across the country, where around 20 to 30 members already joined to help.

Van Der Merwe has encouraged people to drive to some of the farms to experience firsthand what farmer-families encounter due the the drought. For those who would like to help, visit the Friends of Drought Relief’s Facebook page.

We can all play our part to help our farmers in need. Since we launched this project we shared our purpose on social media hoping that more people would open their hearts to come forward and help us helping the farmers. People as far as the United States of America and the UK have reached out to help.
