FIRST BLIND MAN TO SUMMIT LION’S HEAD

Published on

A local adventurer has become the first blind man to summit Lion’s Head.

Adventurer Christopher Venter from Milnerton, conquered the world famous peak last week with the help of  well-known mountain climber Kosta Papageorgiou.  The climb took 10 hours to complete.

Venter says he enjoyed every bit of the climb and hope his journey will inspire many others.

I expected to climb up and down in about four hours, but wow, it took us about four hours just to get to the top…and another six to reach the bottom…nevermind the chains, the steps, the ladders…all the rocks we had to stumble over! I’m feeling quite fragile…but proud of myself for making it to the top. There were many times when I wanted to turn around…some turned around then saw me and said ‘well, if the blind guy can do it, then there’s no way I’m turning around, I’m going to make it to the top’ That was really nice.
