The Honest Truth: The 2019 District 6 Heritage festival is coming to town!

Shahied Ajam, Chairperson of the District 6 Working Committee, joined Benito Vergotine in studio on Thursday 19 September to give us an update about the latest District 6 land claims court developments. Shahied also told us more about the Heritage Day celebrations taking place for the first time, this year.

Heritage Day is fast approaching and will be celebrated nationally onTuesday 24 September 2019.
District 6 Working Committee and the people of District 6 from all areas living in the Capeflats will proceed from Darling Street towards Hanover Street gathering on the Grand Parade opposite the City Hall. From that point we will proceed from Darling Street where the Mayor of Cape Town will conduct the official handover ceremony ( the renaming of Hanover Street)
And then off course there’s the court case wherein the Minister has to finalise the Conceptual Development Framework Plan & Program before end of December.2019 and then hand it to the court for approval so that the development can begin in earnest.
This and much more will be discussed at the final meeting Sunday 23 September 2019 at the Blackpool Hall from 9am till 12: 30pm whereupon lunch will be served.

Chairperson Shahied Ajam and a special young guest, a boy called Ethan De Wet who scored 100% for his District 6 project recently. He’s running for student council and we are pleased to announce that Ethan worked tiressly with District 6 Working Committee in preparation of the District 6 assignment. He’ll be a special guest speaker on Heritage Day.. D6WC is proud of Ethan’s achievements who is a student at Curro in Durbanville.
A special High Tea Gala was hosted by the Executive Mayor Dan Plato in 4 September in honour the District 6 Communty.

Heritage Day is hosted by D6WC ( District 6 Working Cimmittee in partnership with the City of Cape Town.

Attendance: Kaapse Klopse, Hollandse Team, Church Band various artists, various schools in the vicinity of D6.
The concept is: “Better together.
The theme: Heritage and diverse culture in motion!

The 2019 District 6 Heritage festival is an event that will signal the start of Cape Town’s premier celebration of Heritage Day going into the future. It represents a milestone in the history of South Africa where the people of Cape Town, people of this great country would be better together. The pain of the past must now give way to harmony and prosperity. Dignity restoration becomes imperative for the ‘healing’ process to succeed and therefore our diverse cultural heritage is the social fabric that will.unite us.
