Bowler’s Profiles

Published on

Let’s look at the strength of each team’s bowlers.

The bowling department for the host nation, England will be spearheaded by Liam Plunkett an out-and-out quick fast pace bowler. With an average of 633.3 overs innings under his belt, he has gathered 124 wickets which is a record on its own.

Kagiso Rabada the new kid on the block playing in his first world cup for the Proteas, regularly bowls in the 140-150kph range, and is the most exciting talent to emerge from South Africa of late, having already established himself as a potential leader in the attack.

Legspinner Australian Adam Zampa boasts with subtle changes of pace and variations including a straight ball, making up for a lack of unnatural turn.

For the Black Caps there’s Neil Wagner who has attained a career-best fifth position among bowlers in Player Rankings. The Left-arm fast bowler has not only gained six slots but also crossed the 800-point mark, becoming only the third bowler from New Zealand to do so.

India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar, known for his unpredictable inswingers, mostly back into the right-hand batsman, will be a genuine threat at this tournament.

Pakistan’s Imad Wasim will be a key asset in the bowling department at this tournament, with his left-arm spin.

The Windies have the best all-rounder in the world in their arsenal, right-arm medium-fast bowler Jason Holder, who comes across as remarkably level-headed and mature for someone so young, and is sure to produce some fireworks at this year’s world cup.

Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman, a left-arm pace bowler who came into the cricket world trying out for a fast-bowling camp in 2012, soon caught the coaches’ attention to make the Bangladesh Under-19 side for the 2014 World Cup, and has ever since produced some great bowling figures on the international stage.

The Sri Lankan side has been struggling for a while to find its form but they still have the world renowned Lasith Malinga on their side who will provide some stability in the bowling department to the otherwise inexperienced Sri Lankan outfit.

And playing only in their second WC, Minnows Afghanistan will have the spin trio of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi, to choke the run flow of any team at this world cup.
