Deep sea creatures surfacing in cute new TV series

Published on

A brand new wildlife series will discover the behind the scenes areas of the Two Oceans Aquarium, where viewers will meet some of the animals that call the Aquarium home.

On Sundays, at 16:00, M-Net’s beautifully filmed series, The Wild Ones, will explore the Two Oceans Aquarium, where viewers will meet some of the wonderful creatures to be found at this famous location in Cape Town.

Five of the episodes, titled Aquarium: An Aquatic Life, showcase never-before-seen footage and real-life stories that would otherwise not be shared with those outside of the Aquarium.

Helen Lockhart, Two Oceans Aquarium Communications & Sustainability Manager says the series is a dream come true indeed.

“It has always been our dream to bring the Aquarium and its stories to the people of South Africa. We want to give people a glimpse into what it takes to run this Aquarium, what it takes to keep our standards as high as possible at all times, and what it takes to deliver a tourist attraction of international standards, not only to Cape Town, but also to the rest of the country.”

Filmed over four months, each episode of Aquarium: An Aquatic Life, deals with a variety of aspects pertaining to the operations of the Aquarium, behind the scenes activities, the animals in the Aquarium, and the people who play a pivotal role in maintaining the Aquarium’s high standards.

Director of the series, Sanet Olivier, says working on the project changed her life. She explains that she became mesmerised by looking at the animals through the monitors, and very often had to remind herself that she was still directing the show, and not just there to admire the animals.

Take a listen to the podcast above, and hear about the animal that stole her heart most during the filming of Aquarium: An Aquatic Life.
