Smile to the Rescue – THE BIG REVEAL!

Published on

The usually quiet neighbourhood of Zoo Park, Kraaifontein, woke up to the buzz and excitement of something very special on Monday morning.

Neighbours, family and friends of Elsanne Kamffer all congregated at her house from well before first light to see Smile Breakfast’s Bobby and Lindy getting ready to present their popular morning show live from there.

Right on time, at 6am, the show went live on Smile 90.4FM to the delight of the crowd, which had grown even more at this point, with contractors, decorators, journalists and a television crew all joining the occasion.

It was the final stage of ‘Smile to the Rescue with Bobby and Lindy’ – The BIG Reveal – where Elsanne got to see her brand new kitchen; specially designed and rebuilt from scratch to allow for her special needs as a paraplegic.

It was a joyous occasion and everyone was there … except for Elsanne herself.

She was sent off for the weekend, along with her best friend Rika, to stay at a prominent hotel in Cape Town’s city centre. Bobby and Lindy arranged it all under the guise of a well-deserved pampering session; but the real reason was to get Elsanne out of the house so that the contractors could finish the kitchen and to maximize the impact of Elsanne’s pending surprise.

Thus, when she arrived at home just after 7am, she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“When I left here on Friday, there was still nothing … now it’s like it’s just appeared from the heavens, and everything is perfect … so clever and beautiful, every little detail was thought of so that I can get to almost everything in this new kitchen … and I can do anything now” remarked an overwhelmed and emotional Elsanne.

She was asked to cut the ribbon and everyone cheered as she entered her new kitchen for the first time; trying out special easy-access cupboards and drawers and moving around freely amongst her new appliances.

‘Smile to the Rescue with Bobby and Lindy’ and the inspiring story of Elsanne Kamffer’s new beginnings will live long in the memory of everyone involved in this project.

But most of all, we’ll hold on to what Elsanne has taught us … and that is to “never give up.”
