The Brackenfell Community Policing Forum (CPF) has raised concern over multiple house robberies in the area and surrounding areas following what is believed to be a similar modus operandi.
The Western Cape SAPS confirmed three break-ins in the early morning hours on Friday, 23 October.
The first one was reported at a residence on Krondendal Crescent in Stellenberg at around 00:30 that day. Durbanville SAPS are investigating.
“According to the complainant unknown male suspects entered their home through a bedroom window and stole their personal belongings,” said SAPS spokesperson, Thembakazi Mpendukana.
Then, about three hours later and just over three kilometers away, there was another break-in on De Tuin Street in the Brackenfell area.
Mpendukana said the suspects stole tech equipment and fled the scene.
“Brackenfell SAPS has registered a house robbery case following an incident that happened at De Tuin Street, Brackenfell on Friday 2026-10-23 at approximately 03:00.”
Another house robbery case was opened at Kuils River police station that morning, after a premises on Kameeldoring Street in Rouxville was broken into. While nothing was stolen from the house, police reports suggest that an attempt was made.
“According to reports the 50-year-old complainant heard footsteps in her house, got up from her bed and went out of her room. She found an unidentified male and she screamed for help. The suspect fled the scene through the lounge in an unknown direction. The suspect gained entrance to the house by removing the lounge aluminium window frame,” said Lieutenant Colonel F.C. Van Wyk.
Days later, another break-in was reported on Jakaranda Street in Protea Heights in the early hours of Monday morning. This is the second of the confirmed cases to be opened at the Brackenfell police station in less than a week of each other.
“According to reports the victim was at home when two unknown suspects armed with a stick forced the sliding door open and gained entry to the house. The victim managed to escape unharmed, however the suspects fled the scene with two boxes containing clothing,” said Sergeant Wesley Twigg.
There have been no arrests in any of the mentioned cases as yet, as police continue their investigations.
As such, the Brackenfell CPF is appealing to detectives to give urgent attention to these cases to determine whether the incidents could be linked or perpetrated by the same individuals or group.
CPF chair Norman Landry said the series of events is concerning and urged residents in these areas to take the necessary precautions.
“We urge residents to increase their vigilance, ensure that their homes are properly secured, and immediately report suspicious behaviour or vehicles to SAPS. All roleplayers have been asked to be vigilant and alert SAPS immediately,” said Landry.
