Three Killed in Separate Gang-Related Shootings

Two separate gang-related shootings in Lavender Hill and Athlone have left three people dead and one injured on Tuesday, 6 October 2026.

 

In Lavender Hill, two men were shot and killed, and another person was wounded during an early-morning shooting in Muir Court, Depsiton Crescent.

 

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg says a case of double murder and attempted murder has been opened.

 

“Steenberg police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident in Muir Court, Depsiton Crescent, Lavender Hill. Police members responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies. The adult males were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang related.”

 

The suspects fled the scene and have not yet been arrested.

 

 

Less than two hours earlier, a 31-year-old man was shot dead in Athlone.

 

The victim is believed to have been dropping his child off at school when he was attacked.

 

Police spokesperson F.C. Van Wyk says the shooting happened opposite a primary school on Belgravia Road.

 

“According to reports the victim just drop his child when unknown gunmen approached him and randomly started shooting at him, fatally wounding him. He sustains multiple gunshot wounds to his face and upper body.”

 

The suspects also fled the scene and remain at large.

 

Athlone police have opened a murder case.
